Life Beyond The Hurt is a non profit organization dedicated to marginalized individuals who have experienced some form of domestic violence/hurt in their lives and need a place of hope, resources and solace.
Leaving a domestic violence situation unfortunately, does not automatically signify the end of all suffering, which makes life after domestic violence an even more critical period for self-care.
With a focus on awareness, social change, accountability and community well being; Life Beyond The Hurt's most remarkable impact has been creating a safe space for marginalized women to feel physically and emotionally secure to openly express themselves, without fear of judgement or intimidation, while getting the tools and resources needed to navigate through life.
As a domestic violence survivor, our Founder and President Khalieha Cunningham decided to create this safe space and used the story of her past trials and journey to triumph, to help other marginalized women experience the same.
Khalieha is the recipient of the Halifax Volunteer Award 2023, MSVU Alumni Award for Community Service 2022, Acquisition International Non Profit Influential Businesswoman Award Winner 2023, Canadian SME National Black Entrepreneur & Immigrant Entrepreneur Nominee 2023, Afropolitan Canada Leadership Award nominee 2022/2023.
Khalieha's motto is that "She is a survivor, not only because of her strength but because of the struggles she has faced, overcame and the scars that still remain." She understands that everyone has a story and those stories have power. The power to hold them back or push them forward.
Life Beyond The Hurt's Mission, is to raise awareness, influence social and systemic change; while supporting those who have experienced domestic/sexual violence.
